WKOW honored with state broadcaster awards

MADISON (WKOW) — WKOW is celebrating this weekend, after taking home some honors in the news industry.

The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association is hosting its annual awards night on Saturday.

27 News sports director Lance Veeser took home the award this year for best sports reporting for a story on a Badgers women’s basketball player who transferred to be closer to her family, after her father’s illness. Click here to watch that report

Anchor George Smith won best on scene reporting, for anchoring newscasts from the field throughout 2018, including his reports on historic flooding, the Middleton workplace shooting and sports specials. 

The award for best weathercastwent to meteorologist John Zeigler, for his work after historic flooding hit Dane County.

Meteorologist Max Tsaparis took second place in this same category.

WKOW placed in the top three in 17 different categories in the medium TV market in Wisconsin.
