Assistant News Director – KWWL


KWWL is seeking a take-charge leader to help guide our news staff and manage our multi-platform news content. Excellent news judgment is needed for this fast-paced environment and multi-city market.

The successful candidate must be able to identify great stories and create urgency. You will be responsible for making immediate decisions on which stories to cover and how that content will be presented.

You’ll partner with the News Director to execute a vision and strategic plan for success in daily weather, breaking news and the big story every day while helping to manage reporters, producers, photographers and editors.

You’ll also work closely with our Executive Producer and our Social Media and Digital Content Manger in developing, maintaining and utilizing outside contacts as resources and taking a proactive approach to current and evolving issues across all platforms.

The position requires having a creative vision for the use of writing, video, graphics and tech to tell great stories and showcase them in a memorable way for our viewers.

KWWL is a continuous news source with an immediate deadline culture and a commitment to breaking news. This position requires an urgency to get stories published on our web site and social media saturation.

Applicants must have 3 to 5 years producing experience with a strong desire to further their career in news management. This is not an entry-level position.

The Waterloo-Cedar Rapids-Dubuque-Iowa City market is a great place to live with numerous colleges and universities, good quality of life, plenty of outdoor recreation opportunities, and close to Minneapolis, Chicago, and Des Moines.
