13 WREX named ‘Outstanding News Operation,’ collects 11 awards from Illinois AP

NORMAL, Ill. (WREX) — 13 WREX was honored with a state-leading 11 awards from the Illinois Associated Press Broadcasters Association, including the top award of Outstanding News Operation, this past Saturday.This is the third consecutive year, and the fourth time since 2013, that 13 WREX has been named Outstanding News Operation.

The awards were given out at the Illinois News Broadcasters Association spring convention in Normal.

30 broadcasters submitted 273 entries in the contest, which featured news, sports and investigative reporting, as well as features, documentaries and newswriting from 2018.

The 11 awards were the most of any other television station in the state of Illinois and a record night for the 13 WREX team.

“Saturday night was the culmination of all the hard work put in my a newsroom full of talented, dedicated journalists,” said 13 WREX Station Manager Josh Morgan. “To win 11 awards in 9 different categories, including Outstanding News Operation, is just a testament to how much our staff cares about the work they do.”
